How To Set Custom Artwork

For all those non-Steam games

Congratulations, you’ve added a non-Steam game! But you’ll probably notice it looks a little ugly in the Steam interface. As always, the first thing you need to do is switch to Desktop mode.

Start by visiting SteamGridDB.com where you can download artwork for virtually any game you can think of.

The Hero image is the big one you see when you select a game.
The logo displays on the bottom left corner of the Hero image.
Icons only appear in the list of games on the desktop client, so not essential if you plan on mostly staying in game mode.
Posters are the ones you’ll probably see the most of.
You’ll see the banner instead of the poster for the most recent game played.

There are five different types of images you’ll want to download for any game you add to Steam: Heroes, Logos Icons, and the last two which I call Posters and Banners.

The way to change each one of these is kind of annoying; you have to go to where each one of the image types is in the desktop client

Select the game and right click anywhere in that black area where an image should be. Then select Set Custom Background to set the Hero, or Set Custom Logo to set the logo. Either way, navigate to the image file you downloaded from SteamGridDB.com.

Set the Poster

To set the poster image, go to your Library view to find the game you want to add the image to, right click it then select Manage > Set custom artwork, then navigate to the image file you downloaded from SteamGridDB.com.

Set the Banner

To set the Banner, the game will have to be the most recently played. Just like before, right click, select Manage > Set custom artwork, then navigate to the image file you downloaded from SteamGridDB.com.

Set the Icon

The icon is only visible in desktop mode, so it’s up to you if you even want to set it. Either right click the game in the list where the icons are, or click the gear underneath the Hero image, and select Properties...

Then in the dialog box that pops up, click the square under where it says SHORTCUT, then navigate to the image file you downloaded from SteamGridDB.com.
